We've waited a long time to get our hands on the HP iPaq hw6900 series. Though Hewlett-Packard first unveiled it at the 3GSM World Congress back in February, it wasn't until late October that HP and Cingular announced the official availability of the Windows Mobile smart phone. Was it worth the wait? Well, sort of. With an integrated GPS receiver, the iPaq hw6900 sets itself apart from its competitors by doubling as a handheld GPS device supporting Cingular's new location-based service. In addition, it offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a full suite of productivity apps, making it a road warrior's dream. However, it's not all that dreamy. Though we appreciate the full QWERTY keyboard, the buttons are tiny, so we often pressed the wrong key and the 240x240-pixel-resolution screen pales in comparison with other smart phones we've tested. In addition, all that functionality seemed to take a toll on the device's responsiveness, and it doesn't support Cingular's HSPDA network like the recently launched Cingular 8525 does. The Motorola Q is a Windows Mobile smartphone first announced in the Summer of 2005 as a thin device with similar styling to Motorola's immensely popular RAZR. Motorola in a partnership with Verizon Wireless released the Q on May 31, 2006. A version for Sprint was released early in January 2007 and one for Amp'd Mobile in April 2007. The Q differs from Verizon's flagship Windows Mobile phone in that it is very thin, runs the Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone Edition OS (lacking touchscreen support), and has a landscape 320x240 screen. It also employs a thumbwheel on the right side of the unit, similar to the industry-leading BlackBerry. Motorola hopes to position the Q as an attractive alternative to the BlackBerry. The Q was first released in Canada on June 15, 2006 with Telus Mobility. Bell Mobility began offering the phone later that year (September 22) and then became the first North American carrier to offer a black version of the Motorola Q on November 13, 2006. In late July 2007, a new model of the Moto Q, the Motorola Q 9, was released. The Motorola Q 9h was released in Italy and across Europe and in November in the US through AT&T. In August, the Motorola Q9m was released in the US through Verizon. In November, Sprint offered the Motorola Q9c. All Q9 models run Windows Mobile 6. iPhone
iPhone is a device presented by Apple Inc. performing the function of a mobile phone, MP3 player (iPod) and Instant Messenger, as it has been called by Apple Inc. The innovative solution in the iPhone was to remove the traditional keyboard; instead, there is a touch screen supported by the Multi-Touch technology. No stylus is needed; everything is operated with the use of a finger or multiple fingers. An additional novelty is the display that turns off when brought near the ear (proximity sensor) and a 3.5 in display, with 320 x 480 pixels definition, that automatically adjust the screen to the device's orientation (vertical - horizontal). iPhone enables listening to music (MP3 files), watching videos in mpeg format and taking photos with a 2.0 megapixel camera. Similarly to iPods, songs and videos are downloaded directly from iTune Store. The iPhone enables wireless access to the Internet via Wi-Fi and surfing the World Wide Web pages via Safari browser. With a stroke, the 3D on-screen display spins from photos to contacts, from messages to applications. Pre-installed on the Xda Orbit are powerful mobile versions of the usual Microsoft Office applications, so you can edit Word and Excel or view PowerPoint slides and PDFs quickly and easily.
